A 2008 independent longitudinal study by Cam Danielson, updated in 2010, reported that those who have attended multiple graduate programs have a higher degree of self-efficacy and life satisfaction than the norm and have achieved a state of ego development called self-transforming. Graduate program participants recognize the limitations in any perspective and are more willing to consciously and intentionally grow beyond their own boundaries rather than merely having it happen to them as a function of circumstances.

In the study, graduate program alumni reported an increase in the depth of self-awareness, a degree of experience with inner exploration, personal healing, and trust in a higher self. This is why so many Gateway Voyage graduates choose to return to TMI. They are more highly motivated by curiosity and self-discovery which was seeded by their Gateway Voyage experience and now fuels further exploration and transformation as a way of making meaning and finding joy in their lives.

Author: Cam Danielson, MA
Cam is a partner at MESA Research Group. His work focuses on assisting leaders and management teams to revision future direction and opportunity amid the turbulence of personal, organizational, and societal change. His research has appeared in the Academy of Management Executive, Human Resource Development Quarterly, Business Horizons, and the American Benedictine Review. He has designed or conducted executive development programs for companies such as 3M, AT&T, BP, Bristol-Myers Squibb, Crédit Agricole, Dow Chemical, EDS, ExxonMobil, Ingersoll-Rand, Lucent Technologies, Mahindra & Mahindra, Manitowoc, NASA, The Nature Conservancy, Philips Electronics, Prudential (London), Rolls-Royce, Saudi Aramco, Shell International (London), Sara Lee, SUEZ, Whirlpool, and Xerox.

Cam’s background includes twenty years of leading the office of executive education at the Kelley School of Business, Indiana University. He also was a speechwriter for the president of Indiana University and a member of the faculty at the U.S. Air Force Academy. Cam received a BA in classical studies from the University of Kansas and a medieval studies certificate and an MA in English literature from Indiana University. He is an alumnus of The Monroe Institute’s GATEWAY VOYAGE®, GUIDELINES®, LIFELINE™, and EXPLORATION 27® programs (1994 through 2006). Cam attended both the VOYAGE and GUIDELINES twice.
Tom holds a Bachelor of Science in Physics and Math from Bethany College and a Master of Science in physics from Purdue University, as well as having done doctoral-level work at the University of Virginia. He is the physicist described as “TC” in Bob Monroe’s Far Journeys. Tom began researching altered states of consciousness with Bob in the early 1970s. He and Dennis Mennerich helped to design experiments and develop the technology for creating specific altered states. They were also the main subjects of Bob’s investigations at that time. For the past thirty years, Campbell has been focused on scientifically exploring the properties, boundaries, and abilities of consciousness. During that same time period, he excelled as a working scientist—a professional physicist dedicated to pushing back the frontiers of cutting-edge technology.

Using his mastery of the out-of-body experience as a springboard, he dedicated his research to discovering the outer boundaries, inner workings, and causal dynamics of the larger reality system. In February of 2003, Tom published the My Big TOE trilogy. The acronym “TOE” is a standard term in the physics community that stands for “Theory Of Everything” and has been the Holy Grail of that community for fifty years. My Big TOE represents the results and conclusions of Tom’s personal and scientific exploration of the nature of existence. This overarching model of reality, mind, and consciousness merges physics with metaphysics, explains the paranormal as well as the normal, places spirituality within a scientific context, and provides direction for those wishing to personally experience an expanded awareness of All That Is.

Tom will begin by sharing a short description of how TMI came to exist and the invention of Hemi-Sync®. This will be followed by a quick top-level view of the nature of the larger reality and consciousness, including how that reality functions and is constructed by consciousness. Physics and metaphysics will be shown to be unified under one overarching logical understanding that solves the little TOE—uniting both quantum mechanics and relativity under one overarching understanding—and the big TOE describing the point, purpose, and mechanics of one’s existence. A logical explanation is provided describing how the following well-documented phenomena are implemented within consciousness: OOBE, remote viewing, diagnosing, healing, reverse causality, precognitive dreams, synchronicity, law of attraction, raising the ph of water by conscious intent, and experiments showing that we anticipate future events below the cognitive level, as well as an understanding of how brains interface with consciousness.

Combining a PhD in Physics and an interdisciplinary research background encompassing Quantum Theory, Nanotechnology, Origin of Life studies, and Crystal Chemistry, Dr. Theresa Bullard embraces and epitomizes the new paradigm of synthesizing knowledge from a variety of fields to create a new synergy.

Following a lifelong path of exploring ancient metaphysical teachings, alchemy and holistic medicine, she brings fresh ideas to the new study of science and spirituality. She possesses the much-sought-after ability to communicate these concepts in an inspiring and profoundly practical way that every generation from every background can understand and incorporate for real results.

A writer, speaker and consultant for both corporations and individuals, Dr. Bullard has been leading programs in self-empowerment, professional performance and personal transformation since 2002. She has assisted hundreds of people from all walks of life in transforming their lives by realizing their unlimited potential. To learn more about her work, visit www.eye-ris.org where science and spirit unite.

What really is alchemy? And how does it relate to today? The ancient art and science of alchemy holds the keys to both practical methods and understanding for harnessing consciousness to influence the material world at the quantum level. It seeks to expand one’s awareness and direct subtle energies to transform Nature into a perfected state. Ultimately, the primary objective of Alchemy is to raise the subtle vibratory frequency of ourselves, by clearing negative patterns, purifying body, mind, and soul, and thereby achieving our potential. These goals of perfecting nature and the self are achieved in Alchemy through a very specific and intentional process of seven stages of transformation and purification. In this presentation, physicist, alchemist, and healer, Theresa Bullard, will restore awareness of the power of alchemy in the participants. Included is an exploration of each of the alchemical stages, accompanied by a soundscape of specially selected METAMUSIC® tracks that match the goals of each stage. Music has always been one of the key tools used by alchemists to create the inner transformations they sought. Discover the alchemical use of specific types of sound, frequency, and music for harnessing consciousness to create quantum leaps in the transformational process.

Suzanne Evans Morris, PhD is a speech-language pathologist in private practice near Charlottesville, Virginia. With more than forty-five years of clinical experience, she is nationally and internationally known for her work in identifying and treating young children with pre-speech and feeding disorders. Dr. Morris maintains a practice that includes direct clinical work, continuing education workshops, development of clinical materials, and clinical research. She is the director of New Visions, which sponsors innovative workshops for the teaching of feeding-related skills, and provides family-oriented clinical services.

Dr. Morris received her BA in Logopedics and Education from the University of Wichita (1960), and her MA (1962) and PhD (1970) in Communication Disorders from Northwestern University. She has studied Neurodevelopmental treatment approaches extensively in England, Switzerland, and the United States. She is an active member of the Professional Division of The Monroe Institute and has been using Hemi-Sync recordings in her clinical practice with infants and children since 1980.

Dr. Morris has published articles in major journals, and is the author of the Pre-Speech Assessment Scale, a Rating Scale for the Measurement of Pre-Speech Behaviors in Children from Birth through Two Years, and co-author of Pre-Feeding Skills: A Comprehensive Resource for Mealtime Development-2nd edition, the Mealtime Participation Guide, and the Homemade Blended Formula Handbook.

Communication emerges from a partnership built on the foundation of bonding and attachment during infancy. Our initial relationships are established during feeding. Most mothers and infants move into the baby’s first meals with relative ease. However, special situations such as prematurity, chronic illness, gastrointestinal discomfort, and sensorimotor difficulties can influence how well the baby and parents are able to engage in a feeding relationship. Stress for both the child and caregiver can escalate when feeding is difficult. Stress in the adult is communicated easily to the baby, which can further increase the feeding difficulty.

Professionals have utilized Hemi-Sync® in their clinical practice to reduce stress, deepen sleep, improve coordination, and enhance healing. In most instances, however, the emphasis has been placed on the directly reported effect of Hemi-Sync® on the client. This presentation focuses on the shared Hemi-Sync® experience between infants, children, and the adults who care for them. When Hemi-Sync is used over open speakers or with a headphone splitter that enables both individuals to listen to a recording simultaneously, interaction and communication are enhanced.

Skip Atwater is the President of The Monroe Institute and has been part of the growth of the Institute since 1977. In September 1988, he became the Institute’s Research Director. Since then he has published technical research on methods for expanding consciousness and assisted hundreds of individuals in experiencing and exploring altered states of consciousness. Before beginning his research at the Institute, Skip was the Operations and Training Officer for the U.S. Army Intelligence remote-viewing surveillance program (STAR GATE). He worked closely with the scientific efforts of SRI International.

Skip has also been a college instructor, scientific investigator, and human behavioral engineer specializing in the design and application of techniques for cultivating propitious states of consciousness for over three decades. Early in the 1970s he received an associate degree from the University of New York, a baccalaureate degree from the University of Nebraska, and completed his graduate coursework in Counseling Psychology at the University of Northern Colorado. Skip says that his true education, his knowledge, refreshes anew every day with his work at The Monroe Institute® and his own adventures into the realms of human consciousness.

An experiment tested whether mental coherence entrained during the GATEWAY VOYAGE® program would affect sequences of data generated by truly random number generators (RNGs). Two RNGs based on electronic noise and one on radioactive decay latencies were located in the conference room in the Nancy Penn Center. Random data were continually collected from these RNGs during fourteen workshops. As controls, the same RNGs generated data during eight weeks when no workshops took place. Other RNGs in two distant locations were run as additional controls.

The hypothesis predicted that fluctuations in entrained mental coherence associated with the GATEWAY VOYAGE would modulate the random data. This was predicted to result in positive correlations between random data streams collected from one workshop to the next. Results showed that during the workshops the overall correlation was positive, as predicted (p = .008); during control periods the same RNGs produced chance results (p = .74). Random data generated in distant locations also produced results consistent with chance. Overall, results show that the participants’ experiences in expanded states of consciousness during the GATEWAY VOYAGE correlate positively with fluctuations in random physical systems. This approach to studying the nature of mind-matter interaction appears to be a fruitful one.

For over 25 years, Paul Rademacher has been studying the intersection between consciousness, spirituality and the Christian tradition. After graduating with a Masters of Divinity from Princeton Theological Seminary in 1985, Mr. Rademacher spent 15 years in the pastoral ministry working in congregations in Muncie, IN and Charlotte, NC. From 1989 to 1992 he pursued doctoral studies in the areas of mysticism, meditation and spiritual practice, at the Ecumenical Theological Center in Detroit, MI.

In 1997 he attended, for the first time, The Monroe Institute and continued as a student there until 2000. In 2001 he became a residential facilitator at the Institute leading groups in experiential explorations of their inner awareness. Since October of 2007 he has served as the Executive Director of The Monroe Institute.

Before leaving the traditional ministry in 2000, Mr. Rademacher was able to bring together the worlds of spirituality and consciousness by introducing the Monroe methodology to small groups within his congregation. Through courses he designed and taught, the participants were not only able to move personally into profound altered states of consciousness, but were also able to see the connection between these states and what Jesus termed “the kingdom of heaven.” For most of them it was their first introduction to perceptions beyond the physical body – an experience that was life changing for many.

Joseph Chilton Pearce was born January 14, 1926, in Pineville, Kentucky. He served in the US Army Air Corps in World War II, holds a Bachelor of Arts from the College of William and Mary, a Master of Arts from Indiana University, and completed post-graduate studies at Geneva Theological College. He began his career as a teacher of college humanities. Since the mid 1960s he has devoted himself to writing and lecturing.

Joe has published nine books to date. The best known are Magical Child, Evolution's End: Claiming the Potential of Our Intelligence, The Crack in the Cosmic Egg: New Constructs of Mind and Reality, The Biology of Transcendence: A Blueprint of the Human Spirit, and The Death of Religion and the Rebirth of Spirit. His major topics are the development of intelligence in childhood, the rediscovery of our innate intelligence as adults, and the spiritual aspects of our species in general. He currently focuses on the biological nature of the mind-heart connection and the manifold states of consciousness inherent within us.

A prolific lecturer, Joe has made some 2,000 public addresses over the last thirty-five years in the United States and internationally.

Drawing on themes developed in The Biology of Transcendence and The Death of Religion and the Rebirth of Spirit, Joseph Chilton Pearce will explore how we can transcend the limitations and constraints of our current capacities of body and mind. By synchronizing the four neural centers of our brains with a fifth such center located in our hearts, we can overcome the obstacles of social conformity and resolve the conflict between religion and spirit. When heart and mind-brain resonate in synchrony we become open to levels of possibility beyond the ordinary, thus liberating ourselves from a culture mired in violence and injustice.

James D. Lane, PhD is a Professor of Medical Psychology in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, Duke University School of Medicine. Dr. Lane received his AB degree in Physics from Gettysburg College in 1973 and earned his MA and PhD in physiological psychology at the University of California at Los Angeles, where he was a pre-doctoral trainee in the Brain Research Institute. He joined the faculty at Duke University Medical Center in 1979, where he has worked in behavioral medicine research for over thirty years.

Trained as a psycho-physiologist, Dr. Lane has been active in the field of behavioral medicine throughout his career. His research focuses on factors and behaviors that contribute to health and disease including stress, Type A behavior, hostility, smoking, and caffeine consumption and he has applied this research to the prevention and treatment of hypertension, heart disease, and type 2 diabetes.

He has explored the use of meditation in the treatment of high blood pressure and stress and completed clinical trials of a simple meditation technique that proved beneficial as a stress-reduction technique.

Dr. Lane has a long-standing interest in the clinical application of binaural beats and Hemi-Sync® for health and well-being.

There is widespread interest in meditation practice for the reduction of stress in daily life. Although a broad diversity of meditation techniques is available around the world, two training programs, one based on Vedic practices of mantra meditation and the other on Buddhist practices of mindfulness, are dominant in the Western marketplace. Research supports the benefits of both, but the cost, time required for training, and the foundation in Eastern religions may make these programs unacceptable for many.

I will describe efforts at Duke to develop and test a simple and brief program of non-sectarian meditation training that could be offered at low-cost to the community in need of help due to stress. My collaborator Jon Seskevich and I taught this simple program to a group of 200 men and women who wanted to learn meditation for stress-reduction. Our volunteers completed a variety of mood and stress questionnaires before and for three months of daily practice after learning the technique. Improvement was noted for all the measures, but the degree of improvement was related to the frequency of meditation practice.

Our study demonstrates that meditation can be taught in brief, cost-effective programs. Meditation practice leads to improvement in the mental, emotional, and physical symptoms of stress. We hope to continue this research and study how Hemi-Sync® could be used to enhance such training, strengthening initial experiences and supporting adherence to regular practice.

Carolyn M. Ball has been a trainer and counselor in private practice for over twenty years. Consistently rated highly by participants in her trainings, she is a dynamic and humorous speaker who presents in a practical, clear and interactive style. She is the author of Claiming Your Self-Esteem: A Guide Out of Codependency, Addiction, and Other Useless Habits, Blessings in Disguise, and countless published psychological, self-help, and wellness articles.

Carolyn’s constant search for modalities that would bring real change for clients included training in NLP, Hakomi, Internal Family Systems, EMDR (eye movement desensitization and reprocessing), and ultimately brought her to The Monroe Institute® and the Hemi-Sync sound technology for whole brain functioning. Since then, she has been involved in bringing Hemi-Sync out to the professional world through designing courses, teaching nationally, releasing a Hemi-Sync CD (with more to come), writing articles, designing publicity, helping TMI secure continuing education accreditation, and other steps to making this amazing binaural beat technology more broadly available.

Carolyn Ball has presented at numerous conferences, and been a guest on radio and television. In addition to her private counseling practice, she teaches self-help programs and corporate seminars.

While preparing for my first GATEWAY VOYAGE®, I was surprised to receive a rote that launched me into two years of intense work on bringing Hemi-Sync® out to helping professionals. A key step was working with Karen Malik to secure continuing education credits for The Monroe Institute. In this presentation I will bring you up to date on where that stands and where we plan to go with it.

A major element of the rote I received was going on the road and teaching continuing education courses about Hemi-Sync through Pesi Incorporated. In 2009 I taught in six cities and will teach in seven more in the first half of 2010. We will discuss some of the reactions my students have had and some of my techniques that incorporate Hemi-Sync.
The rote included several more steps, which are in the works or completed: bringing out a new type of Hemi-Sync CD with a sound psychologically-based script, a continuing education course at Monroe specifically for members of helping professions, and the creation of a new Hemi-Sync professional brochure, plus articles and media presentations. I am also interested in how you are using Hemi-Sync® in your professional world.

Alex and David Bennet are cofounders of the Mountain Quest Institute, a research and retreat center nestled in the Allegheny Mountains of West Virginia focused on achieving growth and understanding through questing for knowledge, consciousness and meaning. See www.mountainquestinstitute.com and www.mountainquestinn.com The Bennets write and publish extensively. They are co-authors of the seminal work, Organizational Survival in the New World: The Intelligent Complex Adaptive System (Elsevier, 2004), a new theory of the firm based on research in complexity and neuroscience and incorporating networking theory and knowledge management. More recently they worked with the government of Canada to co-author and publish Knowledge Mobilization in the Social Sciences and Humanities: Moving from Research to Action (MQI Press, 2007).

Alex served as the chief knowledge officer for the U.S. Department of the Navy (DON), and was co-chair of the Federal KM Working Group. She is the recipient of the DON Distinguished and Superior Public Service Awards. Dr. Bennet has degrees in Human and Organizational Systems, Human Development, Management for Organizational Effectiveness, English and Marketing.

David’s experience spans many years of service in the military, civil service and private industry, including fundamental research in underwater acoustics and nuclear physics and frequent design and facilitation of organizational interventions. Most recently, he was CEO, then chairman of the board and chief knowledge officer of a professional services firm. Dr. Bennet has degrees in Physics, Mathematics, Nuclear Physics, Human and Organizational Systems, Human Development, and Liberal Arts.

The Bennets continue research specifically focused on knowledge and learning. They take a conciliatory approach, integrating the latest findings and thought from neuroscience, complexity theory, human and organizational development, and values. MQI is scientific, humanistic and spiritual and finds no contradiction in this combination. The Bennets may be contacted at alex@mountainquestinstitute.com

Mountain Quest Institute is a research and retreat center set in a high valley of the Allegheny Mountains of West Virginia, situated in a “quiet zone” surrounding the National Astronomy Radio Observatory. Thus this beautiful, natural setting is distanced from the physical and mental bombardment of continuous cell phone connections.

As people move in and out of the retreat site, Hemi-Sync® is frequently interwoven into the conversations. For example, the beauty of the valley, creeks and mountains, the labyrinth and the 23,000 volumes gracing the library seem to pull people into a mode of self-reflection that opens them up to consider deep and thoughtful questions. Late-night conversations in the library drift into beliefs, purpose, possibilities, and dialogues about what we know, the meaning of our lives, and the role of the unconscious. Hemi-Sync becomes an exciting experience of the evening.

When executive groups are facilitated at the site, Hemi-Sync is more formally introduced during the course of the day and is available for evening experiences for those who choose. The results have not only provided individual growth but stimulated the generation of new ideas and thoughts that repeatedly contribute to off site success. But that’s not all. MQI’s research very much involves the mind-brain, and the researchers (and farm animals) all have a relationship with Hemi-Sync. During this session, the Bennets will share a few statistics along with some fascinating anecdotes.
