Joseph M. Felser, PhD

Board of Directors & Professional Division

Dr. Joseph Felser is a professor of philosophy at Kingsborough Community College of The City University of New York, in Brooklyn, New York, where he has been on the faculty since 1997. He received his BA degree from Boston University and his MA and PhD from The University of Chicago.

Felser’s areas of interest include metaphysics, religion, consciousness research, mythology, spirituality, depth psychology, parapsychology, and what used to be called the “paranormal,” but what is, in his view, increasingly and rightly viewed as a normal element of an expanded view of reality and human possibility. He is the author of two books, The Way Back to Paradise, and The Myth of the Great Ending, as well as numerous articles and reviews that have appeared in both popular and scholarly journals.

Dr. Felser first encountered the work of Bob Monroe in 1979, when he came across Journeys Out of the Body. He attended the Gateway Voyage in 2000, the first of many residential programs, and has been associated with TMI’s Professional Division as a researcher and member since 2006 when he was invited to deliver the keynote address at that year’s seminar. In 2017 he accepted TMI’s invitation to serve on the Board of Directors.
