Our History:

Since 1980, the Monroe Institute’s Professional Division (PD) members have been at the forefront of efforts to explore and expand our collective knowledge about the nature and potential of human consciousness, and to extend the use of Monroe Sound Science (MSS) globally.

MSS is a sophisticated combination of sound modulation techniques designed to facilitate access to expanded states of awareness. This technology can entrain brainwave activity, helping individuals enter altered states more easily and consistently. These states support a wide range of applications, from personal transformation and creativity to clinical interventions, education, and consciousness research

Using various research methodologies (qualitative, quantitative, and mixed-method), members have added immeasurably to our understanding of and insights into both Monroe-specific altered state techniques and the numerous questions and concerns pertaining to the study of consciousness as a whole.

Over the past four decades, PD members have:

  • Conducted groundbreaking studies exploring altered states and expanded awareness.
  • Developed innovative methodologies and applications for MSS in clinical, educational, spiritual, and creative fields.
  • Published reports that continue to deepen our shared understanding of human potential.
  • Formed an international community of practitioners united by curiosity, integrity, and service.

Today, the Professional Division stands on this rich legacy while pioneering new frontiers. Research projects, including pilot studies, longitudinal studies, single participant studies, multi-participant analyses, meta-analyses, and anecdotal reporting, have provided us with a greater database of consciousness research than is possible through our efforts alone.

Current members include people who express an earnest interest in topics involving human consciousness exploration and research. Many of our members are retired professionals, current/former researchers, active clinical and non-clinical practitioners, and educators of various kinds. Becoming a Professional Division member is an opportunity to be involved in an ever-expanding network of like-minded individuals from around the world, one that offers the potential for personal and professional development, community building, and the advancement of knowledge regarding the phenomenon of consciousness.

With a global tradition of over 40 years of breakthrough research and reporting on the Monroe Institute's consciousness development technologies, Professional Division members are responsible for most of the body of work concerning Monroe Sound Science, published both independently as well as through Monroe. PD members are uniquely positioned to apply MSS in their professional fields, conduct research studies, and develop new applications. Monroe partners with leading organizations such as IONS, Yale University and the University of Virginia, further validating and expanding the impact of this technology.

Please consider becoming a member of this leading-edge group.
